Membrane contactors

Polymer-based membrane contactor modules

Liquisol modules can be configured as membrane contactors for liquid and gas streams, driven by chemical potential differences instead of pressure or temperature alone.

  • Enables a wide range of separation and transfer operations beyond classical thermal processes.
  • Compatible with combinations of thermal and membrane-based stages in one system architecture.
  • Beneficial when processing heat-sensitive media or when energy sources are constrained.

Film-vacuum Multi-Stage-Flash (FVMSF)

A polymer-based implementation of the Multi-Stage-Flash process, operated in partial vacuum at temperatures well below 100°C.

  • Thin polymer films as condensation and heat transfer surfaces for high thermal performance and excellent corrosion resistance.
  • Concentrate stream passes a series of stages with decreasing temperature and pressure — each stage generating vapor through flash evaporation.
  • Counter-current feed stream serves as coolant, condensing vapor and forming the distillate stream.
Thermal separation

Film-vacuum Multi-Effect-Distillation (FVMED)

A completely polymer-based implementation of the Multi-Effect-Distillation process, for example used in multi-column distillation systems.

  • Each effect is heated by a vapor stream that is condensed to form distillate while providing energy for new evaporation.
  • Thin polymer films as heat transfer surfaces enable high thermal performance and corrosion resistance.
  • Operation in partial vacuum at temperatures well below 100°C for energy-efficient and gentle processing.
